Day 14: Around Great Longstone.

Day 14:  Around Great Longstone.

The day started in brilliant sunshine.  We had a delightful breakfast with Mike and Ruth in the conservatory before Dale went for a drive with Mike to collect the MG B which was being fettled in preparation for our driving adventure.  This was in another village about 10 miles away.

After picking up the car and Dale giving Mike strict instructions not to lose him, he had his first drive through the dales via a different route back to Great Longstone.

In the mean time Maritta went for a walk around the village photographing some of the buildings including the church, picking up bread at O’Reilly’s Deli and picking up a pint of milk from the nearby dairy.  You leave 50p on the slab next to the fridge.  Only in a small village!

Maritta went back an hour later to pick up a pork pie which was our first taste of this English delicacy which we shared at lunch.

After lunch we went for a drive to nearby Calver to put petrol in the MG. This was a drive of about 20 miles and armed with careful instructions from Mike we managed to find our way via one route and back by another via through Longstone Edge.

Later in the afternoon we enjoyed a cup of tea watch the steady progression of finches, tits in the bird feeders and the odd grey squirrel in the garden - an unwelcome visitor we later learned.  We then packed up ready for heading off on the following day.  We walked across the road to the local Pub – The White Lion for dinner.
