Day 13 Bremen to Manchester then Great Longstone

Day 13:  Cuxhaven to Manchester then Great Longstone.

In Cuxhaven the day started grey and raining again although it appeared to be brightening up toward lunch time. We packed up reasonably quickly - which was no simple feat and put everything in the hire car ready to go to Bremen airport all by 10.30 am!

It was really lovely of Edina to come by to say goodbye, then we had an early lunch with Traute and Hans Jurgen.  (It was a really lovely fried potato with onion, speck (smoked bacon) and served with a fried egg. Yummy!

Dale was quite eager to head off just in case we had any difficulties particularly as we were flying Ryanair out of Bremen.  We left Cuxhaven at 11.30 am and the friendly GPS lady got us to Bremen without any difficulty.  We however we couldn’t convince her to find the airport! Fortunately we found some signs before we got to stressed and actually found the airport and the hire car return without a problem.

After having our passports checked several times we got into the departure lounge.  Fortunately Maritta had spent a few Euro’s extra so we had reserved seats on the plane, seating on the flight is first come first served....a real bun fight for those who don't have reserved seats.

Plane flight to Manchester was uneventful and unlike Alan and Noeline we came through customs in little more than 5 minutes. As our plane was about 30 minutes early we had a nervous wait for Mike, wondering if we or he would recognize each other.  A phone call to Noeline gave us his phone number but she warned that given they had taken so long to get through customs the week before he won't be in a hurry to get to us.

As it turned out we did recognize each other easily.

Had a great drive from Manchester airport into the Peak district to Mike and Ruth’s home at Great Longstone. The weather was great on arrival - sunny but fresh and the drive through the back roads was fabulous.
