Day 39 Drive from Azay de Rideau in Loire Valley to Brelidy in Brittany

Day 39 Drive from Azay de Rideau in Loire Valley to Brelidy in Brittany

Today’s transport leg started of well when Mike and Ruth sailed past the turnoff, the rest of us being a little behind in the village traffic, took the correct turn and then sped up wondering why we had not caught Mike and Ruth.  They were in turn trying to catch us! which they eventually did just as we decided they must have missed a turn and stopped to wait.

The next entertainment happened when we stopped to take a “loo” break and pick up supplies for lunch. A sign in the village said toilets 200M, at approximately 200M there was another sign saying 300M. Eventually we found the required building.  Now, we have got used to the uni-sex loos with a couple of cubicles and the urinals in the corner however this was a new slant. The small building was in a treed park about 50ft off the road. Two doors in the front led to the usual facilities, not a hole in the ground fortunately.  It was then we discoverd the men at the Pissoire! These were at the back of the toilet block in the open. While we are becoming used to having the pissoire in the same space as the ladies toilets!! but this was something else as only 2 or 3 feet away was a delightful picnic table. We decided not to have our picnic in this spot and moved down the freeway to a nice open spot!
Men's loo complete with picnic area!
The weather was now fining up we also found something open as we are becoming accustomed to everything being closed when we need it! There was a delightful little boulangerie with an even more delightful girl serving. After buying jambon/fromage (ham and cheese) baguettes and several beautiful cakes we hit the road again.  Stopping a little further down the road for our picnic.

Lunch stop complete with table this time.

The navigation got a bit confusing at the end of the day but we eventually found our way to the converted 14th century castle which is our last overnight stay in France (sob sob!).

We found our chateau and booked in for dinner that night. A young french couple have only bought the freehold in the past 3 weeks and there are a few things need attending but generally it has been a lovely stay. Food was pretty good although service very slow. Wines were excellent.
