Day 7 Road to Rostock

Day 7: Road to Rostock.

The day started as reasonably mild but with a chill light wind.  We left Berlin today ....eventually.

Train and walk to pick up the hire car was character building, not sure what Maritta has put in my bag as she swears she hasn't bought anything but the weight tells me otherwise.  (Perhaps Alan didn't leave this morning and is hiding in there somewhere.  Alan and Noeline left us early this morning to go to UK to spend a week with friends and we will catch up with them in a little over a week.

The confused but very helpful lady at the Hertz counter was a gem.  When she couldn't find our booking we had to resort to unpacking cases and bags to find paperwork and the laptop.  It was a Budget rental we soon discovered!  Fortunately the Budget counter (which was really the Avis counter in disguise) had our car and was only next door.

It took a while to find the car park (another visit to Europa center help desk) but found it eventually, then returned to the Europa center for a late German breakfast - Viennese frankfurters and potato salad...yum!

NOW we brave it out into Berlin traffic on the "wrong" side of the road driving from the wrong side of the car.  We considered going to Leipzig but decided it was a bit far so eventually threaded our way out of Berlin and headed north to Rostock. The hire car is a Seat Toledo and comes complete with GPS which was very helpful (thanks to Maritta's German once again).

Fritz had a relaxing day in the back seat, whilst Maritta yelled when the driver got to close to the edge on her side.

Traveled  north in a meandering sort of way sticking to the back roads and found our way to our hotel, north of Rostock at a place called Warnemunde which is on the edge of the Baltic Sea.

Now having dinner and a glass of wine whilst watching the Ferry's and other ships crossing the Baltic coming and going from Denmark and other exotic locations.

Life can be a little tough sometimes....oh well someone has to do it!

Postscript. Forgot to mention, most of our travels today were on b&C roads but we did get on an A road for a short time going in to Rostock. Two lanes wide and no Speed limit apparently (well an occasional 130km speed limit and 80km when there was an exit road). I eventually crept up to about 150km/Hr but the Audi's and Mercedes still went past like we were standing still.
